Newell And Obama's Bundler Get Creative Against Silver

Paul Newell, one of the two candidates challenging Assembly Speaker Sheldon
Silver in a primary this fall, is getting some help in his quest from Arthur
Leopold, a young Barack Obama fundraiser who is starting to expand his
portfolio of insurgent Democratic candidates.
Leopold, who is also helping Kevin Powell in his attempt to unseat Rep. Ed
Towns in the 10th CD, is one of the hosts of a June 24 Newell fundraiser at
M1-5 featuring the band "The Shivers."
The invite, which appears in full after the jump, lists the following
contribution levels:
- $77 days until the Sept. 9th Democratic Primary when
- $149 Assemblymen other than Sheldon Silver get a voice in
- $500 = complimentary Billecart-Salmon or Veuve Clicquot and is the amount
of signatures Paul needs to get on the ballot in...
- $2008, which gets you on the finance committee and is the year we regain
democracy downtown.
- Student rate night of with ID: $22 years since anyone had the cajones to
challenge Silver and you were born.
This is the second Newell event at what Azi, who is much hipper than me, calls
a "hipster" locale, and also the second time he has gotten creative
with the suggested contribution amounts as a way of tweaking the Speaker.
