Services for New Americans

Lower Manhattan has been the gateway to America for millions of immigrants.  For 200 years we have been enriched by welcoming people from around the world to our neighborhood.

That history continues today, and the state government needs to do more to help new comers take advantage of all of the opportunities the United States has to offer.  The hard working immigrant community in our district needs support for after school programs for their children and continuing education courses for adults.  We need to do all we can to help those to whom the path to citizenship is available achieve that goal and to educate new New Yorkers about how they can take a broader role in the civic life of this great city.

Paul's father immigrated to New York City in 1956.  His successful immigrant story has inspired Paul's love for New York and America.

As your assembly member, Paul Newell will do everything in my power to support successful programs and expand opportunity where it is lacking.

  • Status Blind State Services - All New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status, must have access to the services and resources of State and City government, including higher education and drivers licenses.

  • Adult Education - We must commit to expanding and supporting the variety of educational opportunities for adults, including English For Speakers Of Other Languages (ESOL), computer literacy, and citizenship classes.

  • After School Programs - Welcoming immigrants means increasing access to arts programs, academic support, college access programs for all children in the afternoons.
